Full-time Network Administrator

Position Description

An opportunity for a full-time Network Administrator is available in our IT Services department. The Network Administrator's role is to ensure the stable operation of the in-house computer network. This includes planning, developing, installing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all network hardware, software, and communication links. The incumbent will also analyze and resolve end user hardware and software computer issues in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training where required.

Other duties include:

Strategy and Planning: strategic network design and capacity planning; developing, implementing and maintaining policies, procedures and associated training plans for network resource administration, appropriate use, and disaster recovery; establishing service level agreements with end users.

Acquisition & Deployment: overseeing installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of end user workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices; interacting and negotiating with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure network products and services; conducting research on network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of network procurement and development efforts.

Operational Management: managing servers, including email, print, and backup servers and their associated operating systems and software; managing security solutions, including firewall, anti-virus, and intrusion detection systems; managing all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, and UPSs; maintaining Interac compliance and control records, maintaining and supporting ATM functionality and compliance, ensuring network connectivity of all workstations; administering all equipment, hardware and software upgrades; practicing network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications information; administering and maintaining end user accounts, permissions, and access rights; performing server and security audits, system backups, and recoveries; monitoring and testing network performance and providing network performance statistics and reports; recommending, scheduling, and performing network improvements, upgrades, and repairs; managing and/or providing guidance to junior members of the team, including teaching and/or training of systems and procedures to staff members; performing other duties as required.

Qualifications Required

  • a college diploma or university degree in the field of computer science and/or 4-5 years equivalent work experience;
  • a broad knowledge of IT applications, IP networking, IP telephony, and data communications, including an ability to investigate user-needs, find cost effective solutions, and efficiently implement solutions;
  • the ability to determine and drive the IT direction of the company;
  • knowledge of IT network security (its implementation and management to secure company's business data and communications);
  • willingness to perform hands-on problem solving, user support, and system administration tasks;
  • excellent knowledge of:
    • Microsoft Windows, Office, Servers, PowerShell, and Exchange applications
    • .Net, JavaScript, HTML, VB, XML
    • System Internals of Microsoft Operating System, Linux
    • Database technologies such as Oracle, SQL Server
  • thorough knowledge of PCI requirements relating to IT activities;
  • knowledge of products and applications including:
    • Meraki Appliances
    • ESXi
    • VSphere
    • Automic Automation Software

Beneficial Knowledge and Experience

  • experience using monitoring tools such as Microsoft, Manage Engine;
  • knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws;
  • thorough knowledge of Credit Union policies, procedures and business processes as they relate to IT service activities;
  • thorough knowledge of Credit Union operations as they relate to the management and development of the IT function;
  • knowledge of products and applications including:
    • INETCO Insight
    • Cisco Switch products
    • FISERV applications including DNA Banking System
    • FutureX Encryption Devices
